Director of Payroll Compliance

Working out of our Summerlin, Las Vegas Executive offices, the Director of Payroll Compliance is responsible for researching, staying up to date, and ensuring CalPortland follows evolving, applicable federal, state, county, and local laws, rules and regulations related to payroll in all jurisdictions where employees reside. The Director of Payroll will manage payroll and compliance projects and collaborate with Human Resources, Benefits, IT, and other applicable groups to ensure that staff are informed and trained on changes that affect Payroll.

Responsibilities

  • Stay current on payroll-related compliance with federal, state, county, and local laws, rules and regulations that apply to the organization in all jurisdictions where employees reside
  • Ensure the Payroll team is fully trained on all relevant compliance matters
  • Regularly review payroll activities for compliance and make adjustments as necessary
  • Identify potential compliance risks and take corrective action as appropriate
  • Coordinate with Legal, Human Resources, Benefits, IT, and other applicable groups to ensure that staff are informed and trained
  • Evaluate and assess payroll processes for efficiency and effectiveness and drive change as appropriate
  • Supervise the Payroll Manager
  • Audit payroll activities to ensure documented processes and procedures are being followed
  • Set strategic direction for the Payroll Department to ensure scaling with the organization
  • Prepares and presents compliance reports
  • Other duties as assigned

Education

Bachelor's degree preferred

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Minimum of ten years progressive experience in Payroll including a minimum of three years in a compliance role
  • Minimum of three years working at a director level or above
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work across departments (e.g. HR, Finance, IT, etc.)
  • Ability to travel as necessary

Work Schedule:
Work week is Monday - Friday and occasional weekends.  

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) registration/clearance as well as ongoing alcohol and drug testing.
