Production Superintendent

The Production Superintendent is accountable for the efficient production of cement including efficient utilization and improvement of production facilities. In addition, it is responsible for production from the point raw material is introduced into the processing cycle to the time it emerges as finished cement to the customer. This involves the operation of a wide variety of heavy industrial machinery including ball mills, kilns, stackers reclaimers, and similar large fixed installations. Reports to Plant Manager.

Compensation

Full time salaried exempt position $130k - $150k per year. Annual management incentive bonus. Annual profit sharing bonus potential. Up to 12% company contribution to 401(k) plan. 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that products are produced at quality and performance standards
  • Ensure that established inventories are maintained, and plant production facilities produce cement according to profit targets and marketing objectives
  • Establish and monitor a production plan; maintain accurate cost and inventory control; calculate and analyze productivity and material data
  • Ensure that plant manufacturing equipment and facilities are maintained in optimum condition through close coordination with the Maintenance Superintendent
  • Understand the value of quality and ensure processes are in place to provide a quality product to our customers
  • Train, discipline, and motivate staff to ensure an efficient, safe, stable and cooperative workforce
  • Responsible for maintaining operating costs by developing and implementing cost control measures
  • Responsible for capital and operating budget
  • Assure fair and consistent compliance to applicable Company Policies, Labor Agreement and governmental regulations
  • Maintain duties related to MSHA regulations, including accident investigation and reporting, safety meetings, training, etc.
  • Actively engage with the employees to reinforce safe behaviors; ensure that safety, compliance and environmental requirements are followed
  • Work closely and effectively with safety, environmental, engineering, and quality control

Education

  • B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering or related degree preferred. 
  • Thorough working knowledge of cement production process.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Must have 7-10 years of cement manufacturing experience, along with leadership experience. 
  • Ability to formulate decisions, make and support recommendations, prioritize work, communicate with multiple parties and handle multiple tasks.
  • Strong written/verbal communication, analytical and computer skills.
  • Proficient reading, writing and basic math skills.
  • Excellent work ethic - high standard of performance and production.
  • Ability to direct, motivate and coach activities of others.
  • Must be able to see and hear safety indicators and warnings.
  • Obtain the physical ability to:
    • Must be able to walk long distances, climb ladders, stairs and stockpiles, stoop, crawl under and into enclosed spaces
    • Work in all weather conditions: heat, cold, wet, dry, dusty, and near hot kiln process
    • Walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and/or slippery ground)
    • Work at heights
  • Drive vehicle to various plant sites and work locations; must be able to travel overnight (air/auto)

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
