Engineering Services Intern - Redding, CA

Job Summary

CalPortland Redding Cement Plant is seeking an Engineering Services Intern for the summer of 2025. The Engineering Services Intern will work alongside the Plant Engineer and assist in the administration of the Capital Budget (CapEx) Program, including application of various engineering principles to create project scopes, project cost estimations, contract negotiations, and contractor supervision. 

Compensation

This is a full-time temporary position during summer months 2025. Pay rate will depend on skills and experience, vary between $20 -$25 per hour.  Housing is in included.  

Responsibilities

CalPortland Redding Cement Plant has proposed 29 projects for the 2025 Capital Budget. Depending on which projects get approval, the Intern will help on the Projects at the top of the priority list for the term that they are employed at CalPortland.

 

As skill and education level allow support Engineering Department in in the Capital Project process by:

  • Under guidance of Plant Engineer, develop requests for proposals, bid documents, specifications, and contracts.
  • Participate in the bidding and construction of capital projects.
  • Participate in technical studies, surveys, and site inspections.
  • Communicate with vendors, purchasing department, contractors, and plant personnel in the planning and execution of projects.
  • Participate in project meetings and monitoring of project status.
  • Ensure that projects are executed safely per prevailing safety standards and company requirements.
  • Writes technical reports and Standard Operating Procedures as required.

Education

Pursuing B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Agricultural, Industrial Engineering.  Related disciplines such as Construction Management and Ag Systems Management will be considered.

Requirements/Qualifications

Required skills:

  • Understanding of core Engineering concepts as appropriate depending on coursework completed.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and solve problems as they arise.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite - Excel, Word, Outlook, Powerpoint.
  • Must be reliable and have good attendance.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Understands engineering drawings and plans.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or Solidworks.
