Job Summary

Directs, organizes, plans, and develops the implementation and ongoing activities of the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Department including supervision of the field Human Resources staff as well as the day-to-day administration including record keeping, HRIS, and interfacing with Payroll.

Responsibilities

  • Directs, supervises, and manages the field Human Resources staff
  • Counsels managers and supervisors on the management of staff including performance improvements plans, discipline, and discharge
  • Develops and implements HR strategies to increase the department's level of efficiency and effectiveness
  • Supports the Industrial Relations function in the administration of collective bargaining agreements and related activities such as grievances
  •  Acts as the HR Business Partner for corporate-based staff
  • Serve as a "subject matter expert" resource for the Executive team on HR related matters
  • Designs, develops and implements programs designed to improve employee morale/retention
  • Works with other HR department leaders in the design, development, and implementation of effective programs including employment, employee relations, industrial relations, training & development, attraction/retention, and succession planning
  • Coordinates with other departments such as Risk Management, Legal, Finance, etc. in the design and execution of cross-functional programs
  • Develops, recommends, implements, and manages company policies
  • Responsible for compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
  • Responsible for employee records and reporting including EEO1, Vets100, and Affirmative Action Plans

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or closely related field; Master’s degree preferred

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Minimum seven to ten years of progressive HR generalist responsibility including leading a distributed team
  • Strong employee relations skills including conflict resolution, investigations, performance management
  • Outstanding written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to work with limited day to day supervision
  • Strong HR automation background including design, development, and implementation of a cloud-based HR system
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices and HR legal/compliance matters

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require FMCSA regulated on-going drug and alcohol testing.
