Sustainability Manager

Job Summary

The Sustainability Manager is an environmental advocate with industry knowledge and technical aptitude. This position will advocate for CalPortland’s sustainability policies and initiatives both internally and externally. 

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with influencers - architects, engineers, specifiers, and decision-makers on material use and resiliency, and sustainable objectives
  • Develop marketing or outreach media for sustainability projects or events
  • Help develop marketing plans or strategies for environmental initiatives
  • Manage outreach activities
  • Lead efforts to seek recognition by associations, government agencies, and other organizations for CalPortland’s successful sustainability programs
  • Develop, establish and maintain company-wide sustainability objectives 
  • Work with management to establish an internal process for calculating organizational carbon footprint and develop plans for reducing it
  • Address issues such as energy use, resource conservation, recycling, pollution reduction, waste elimination, transportation, education, and creating plans towards supporting a circular economy 
  • Identify inefficiencies or areas where the company can set benchmarks and improve their environmental impact
  • Support and promote the Energy Star program 
  • Be familiar with and stay ahead of the latest environmental technologies (carbon-related, etc.)
  • Interface with all internal and outward-facing departments (marketing, technical, sales, engineering, and environmental to stay on top of EPDs, PCRs, LEED, LCA)
  • Lead training sessions or workshops on sustainability practices for CalPortland employees 
  • Supervise employees or volunteers working on sustainability projects
  • Work with Chief Energy Engineer to maintain operational records for green energy processes or other environmentally sustainable activities
  • Develop sustainability reports, presentations, or proposals for supplier, employee, academia, media, government, public interest, or other groups
  • Identify and evaluate pilot projects or programs to enhance the sustainability research agenda
  • Participate on industry committees and advocate on behalf of CalPortland 
Education

Bachelors of Science in Environmental Science, Engineering or equivalent

Requirements/Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years working in a sustainability position or sustainability-related field
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel as necessary

Preferred:
LEED Green Associate or LEED AP
