Research Scientist
Job Summary
The Laboratory Research Chemist/Scientist will assist or lead laboratory efforts and operations for the analysis and development of cementitious materials and maintain the laboratory’s safety practices and procedures. The role requires a good understanding of cement chemistry and physics, and experience with the use of advanced characterization tools such as microscopy, XRD, XRF, Calorimetry, etc.

Compensation
$90K-$125K annually DOE
Responsibilities
- Support laboratory manager and staff with ongoing tasks related to chemical analysis and characterization of cementitious materials
- Support the Laboratory Director with executing research and development projects
- Assist and take charge of some of the laboratory’s equipment, such as XRF, XRD, etc. with timely calibrations and coordination of service contract
- Maintain laboratory safety at its highest standards according to the company’s guidelines and policies
- Assist the internal project coordinator, and other stakeholders with the execution of their projects
- Assist with the preparation of various laboratory reports
- Prepare requisitions and provide recommendations for laboratory chemicals and supplies
- Assist with the laboratory’s lean and housekeeping activities
Education
MS or PhD degree in Material Science or Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
Requirements/Qualifications
In-depth knowledge and experience with cement and concrete materials
Previous minimum 5 years of successful laboratory work
Strong understanding of the physics and fundamentals of materials characterization tools (XRD, XRF, TGA, etc.), mainly related to the analysis of cementitious materials
Strong analytical skills
Strong communication skills
Well-versed in Microsoft Office applications (mainly Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, and Planner)
Good understanding of ASTM and ACI specifications
Must be able to work cooperatively with others
Conditions of Employment
Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require FMCSA-regulated ongoing drug and alcohol testing.
