Geology Intern
Job Summary
CalPortland is seeking a summer intern for the Corporate Engineering Group. This internship is ideal for a student interested in geology. The intern will have the opportunity to work on a variety of heavy capital projects. Exposure to various plants and mine sites.
Compensation
$19.50-$26.00/hr DOE
Responsibilities
- Complete Safety and MSHA training and any other site/job specific required training
- Carry-out and practice all safety training and Company policies
- Assist with all aspects of economic geology and land issues
- Mapping, mine planning, mineral exploration, permitting, research of government land issues, and environmental geology
- Provide help, designing and budgeting for projects at multiple plant locations
- Additional work with other engineering disciplines
- Assist in routine housekeeping and maintenance of the facilities
- Learn about other CalPortland departments and interface as required
- Perform plant tasks as assigned
Education
Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Geology
Requirements/Qualifications
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Good attendance and punctual
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting
- Must possess valid driver's license, insurance and be insurable to drive company vehicles
Preferred:
- Experience with equipment management software
- Basic knowledge of CAD or GIS
- Ability to hike up to 5 miles in desert summer conditions
- Prior experience or internship in construction or building materials industry
Conditions of Employment
Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require FMCSA regulated on-going drug and alcohol testing.
