Fleet Maintenance Engineer

Job Summary

The Corporate Fleet Administrator reports directly to the Director of Fleet Management and is responsible for the oversight of all on-and-off-road mobile equipment owned, leased, and rented by the company.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in Planning, coordinating and directing the repairs and maintenance of equipment to eliminate failures and minimize downtime; this includes both in-house and outsourced maintenance
  •  Aid multiple operations; assist Fleet Managers and Operations Managers
  • Monitor and track equipment usage; ensure effective preventive maintenance programs including tires and wear parts
  • File necessary permits and/or reports for regulatory agencies and ensures compliance
  • Hold dealerships and rental yards accountable for uptime of equipment; assist with capital budget requests and work/purchase orders for major maintenance and new equipment purchases including Company Vehicle Emkay Fleet 
  • Assist with departmental budget development, maintenance reporting, and capital expenditure requests
  •  Effectively use and train employees on the CalPortland SAP based Work Order System
  • Coordinate updating DMV registration and proper insurance coverage
  • Track and ensure that CalPortland realizes all warranty applicable repairs, upgrades, and safety bulletins
  • Inspect and evaluate mobile equipment and develops reliability centered maintenance programs
  • Troubleshoot problems in the plant by studying and determining root causes of failures
  • Identify, collect, analyze, and manage various types of data to minimize failures and improve performance, and use failure analysis and other types of root cause analysis in support of reliability
  • Establish and maintain preventative maintenance measures and documentation for all equipment
  • Manage, engage and utilize all levels of employees to assist in generating creative ways to drive continuous improvement and increased reliability
  • Foster a culture of reliability; develop and provide training to personnel so that they can support safety, equipment reliability, and process efficiency
Education
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Civil Engineering or equivalent certification is preferred; 5 years of experience in equipment management may be used in lieu of a degree.
 
Requirements/Qualifications
  • Experience in equipment management pertaining to off road heavy equipment, as well as other on-road commercial vehicles
  • Knowledge pertaining to commercial vehicles and heavy equipment: hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, cutting, machining, and electrical
  • Knowledge of California DOT, FMCSA, PERP, and CARB regulations
  • Experience with both on-and-off-road Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) systems
  • Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibility
  • Must understand and comply with Lockout/Tagout procedure and safety requirements
  • Proficiency in computer systems, including all Microsoft Office products; Working knowledge of SAP Production required
  • Ability to exercise independent decision-making and prioritize conflicting demands
  • Must be willing to work cooperatively with plant and corporate personnel
  • Strong communicator with organizational, motivational, and problem-solving skills
  • Physical requirements: Walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and/or slippery ground), climb stairs/ladders up to 200 ft. in elevation, climb on equipment to provide supervision, walk long distances, stoop, crawl under and into enclosed spaces
  • Possess and maintain a valid class C driver’s license; Drive to various plant sites and work locations (some overnight travel)
