Aggregate Plant Intern

Job Summary

CalPortland is seeking a summer intern for the Construction Group.  This internship is ideal for a student interested in construction management, mechanical or civil engineering. This individual will have the opportunity to work on a variety of heavy civil projects such as road, bridge, disaster recovery, etc., performing tasks in all phases of the project (i.e., bid/estimates, field work, documentation, compliance reporting, etc.)


  • Complete Safety and MSHA training and any other site/job specific required training
  • Carry-out and practice all Safety training and Company policies in the CalPortland workplace
  • Learn about all aspects of the operation, to include mining, processing, quality control and heavy equipment repair
  • Assist in routine housekeeping and maintenance of the facilities
  • Complete summer-long Capstone project, to possibly involve research, involvement with plant personnel, interface with other CalPortland departments, outside government agencies, task training, data collection and reporting, etc.
  • Learn about other CalPortland departments and interface as required   
  • Attend Summer Intern Orientation event at Corporate Headquarters in Glendora, CA
  • Present Capstone Project Summary to Management Staff
  • Perform plant tasks as assigned


Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Systems Management, Agricultural Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or other Engineering related discipline.


  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Good attendance and punctual
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (night work may be required)
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. and perform physical labor in inclement weather
  • Must possess valid driver's license, insurance and be insurable to drive company vehicles


  • Experience with equipment management software
  • Prior experience or internship in construction or building materials industry

Conditions of Employment
