Operations/QC Intern

Job Summary

CalPortland is seeking a summer intern in the materials division. This internship is ideal for a student interested in construction management, operations or engineering related fields. The intern will spend half of the summer working in Quality Control to learn the product, quality standards, and testing processes, then transition to Operations for the second half of the summer to gain field based experience. 

Compensation

$20.50-$27.00/hr DOE

Responsibilities

• Complete Safety, MSHA, and any site or job specific required training
• Carry out and follow all safety practices per MSHA and company rules and regulations
• Support the Quality Control team by assisting with tasks such as collecting samples, performing basic lab work, observing testing procedures, recording and entering test data, and supporting on site testing activities
• Learn CalPortland quality standards and product specifications
• Transition to Operations for the second half of the internship to support field operations, plant activities, and operational needs
• Perform plant and field tasks as assigned under the direction of Operations leadership
• Learn about other CalPortland departments and interface as needed
• Attend the summer intern orientation event at corporate headquarters in Las Vegas, NV

Education

Currently pursuing Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or other Engineering related discipline

Requirements/Qualifications

•    Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
•    Good attendance and punctual 
•    Ability to work independently and in a team setting
•    Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. and perform physical labor in inclement weather
•    Must possess a valid driver's license, insurance and be insurable to drive company vehicles
Preferred: 

Prior experience or internship in the construction or building materials industry

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require FMCSA regulated on-going drug and alcohol testing.
