Transportation Manager - Ready Mix (Ready Mix)

Job Summary

The Transportation Manager will be responsible for the overall supervision of ready-mix drivers. Main duties will include hiring, coaching and training drivers, keeping the culture of Safety and Environmental compliance, working with our Dispatch, Customer Service and Sales teams ensuring customers are receiving a high level of service. This position works closely with other departments, including, Safety, Environmental, Sales, Equipment Manager and Human Resources. 

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and supervise up to 90 Ready-Mix Drivers at one or more sites this includes driver training, performance, coaching, scheduling time off, employee grievances or complaints and pay changes
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to add quality employee drivers
  • Monitor driver behavior and ensuring a high level of customer service
  • Respond to jobsite and other driver related incidents
  • Assist, plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations
  • Involvement with Capital Equipment budgeting
  • Conduct post-accident investigations and prepare reports identifying possible accident causes and hazards for use by company personnel and senior management
  • Close collaboration with Dispatch Manager and General Manager in areas of goal setting, sales, customer service, and staff development
  • Track productivity, produce reports and analyze data to increase business operational efficiency
  • Visit customer sites to evaluate and resolve safety issues
  • Communicate and follow up on problems at customer sites, DVIR repairs and safety issues reported by drivers
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relations with unions

Education

  • High school diploma/GED; College degree preferred
  • Any relevant operations management certifications, i.e., industry specific management training

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-7 years of transportation experience involving managing and successfully coaching CDL drivers or equivalent related experience
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and DOT regulations and requirements
  • Experience implementing training programs for drivers
  • Personnel management experience
  • Ability to engage drivers and develop talent
  • Knowledge of office systems, including proficiency in Excel and Word
  • Strong leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills aptitude
  • Strong oral and written communications skills aptitude
  • Ability and willingness to work as early as 4:30 a.m., late evenings and weekends
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Logistics, Operations, Business Management
  • Experience with SAP
