Light Duty Truck Mechanic/Oiler-Scappoose

Job Summary

The Light Truck and Vehicle Mechanic will repair light duty trucks. All functions are to be performed while exhibiting and championing safe work and environmental compliance practices for the incumbent as well as co-workers.

Responsibilities

  • Service/repair engines, transmissions, clutches, rear ends, and other assemblies on diesel/gasoline motorized equipment, replacing worn or broken parts
  • Change tires, oils, and greases diesel or gasoline motorized equipment by use of hand or pressure grease guns
  • Assist garage mechanics in making repairs
  • Adjust brakes, repair fuel pumps, injectors, etc.
  • Perform welding, brazing, cutting or fabricating on engine powered equipment or components
  • Maintain air conditioning units on all mobile equipment
  • Perform repairs/troubleshoot mobile equipment electrical systems
  • Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition
  • Perform functions of a Garage Maintenance Helper as necessary
  • Perform clean up in all areas of the facility

Education

High school diploma/GED

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Computer proficient
  • Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in the English language
  • Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibility
  • Physical requirements: ability to sit, stand, stoop, and bend for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours), walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and/or slippery ground), ability to climb on equipment, Ability to see and hear safety indicators and warnings, lift and carry 75lbs.; ability to walk long distances, climb ladders, stairs, and stockpiles, stoop, and crawl under and into enclosed spaces.
  • Must work in all weather conditions: heat, cold, wet, dry and/or dusty conditions and near hot kiln process
  • Must be able to use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required
  • Will have exposure to all levels of noise that require use of hearing protection
  • Ability to work in surroundings that include heat, dust, vibration, heights and confined spaces
  • Ability to see and hear safety indicators and warnings.
